Why this show

Liminality isn’t the aesthetic. It’s the point.

What makes the series stand out is that liminality isn’t just an aesthetic, it’s the whole point of the story. While other shows might land in that space by accident, this one is built around it from the ground up, using the mall and its shifting dimension as the main setting and conflict. The early 90s setting just sharpens that feeling, turning nostalgia into something uneasy.

Synopsis

A buried facility. A missing friend. A door that should have stayed shut.

Simon is exploring the abandoned Stargate Mall in the small town of Garrison when he accidentally reactivates a dormant threshold hidden beneath the building. The mall around him shifts, and he’s pulled through into a pristine, empty version of the place that looks untouched by time.

Trapped on the other side, Simon starts piecing things together. Certain artifacts scattered through this dimension grant him strange abilities the longer he’s near them, which turns out to matter, because he isn’t alone. Something in the dark has noticed him, and it isn’t friendly.

Back in Garrison, an old facility flickers awake. OMEN, the secret government agency that buried the threshold decades ago, rolls in with hazmat teams to contain whatever has started leaking through. While they scramble to seal the breach, Simon’s friends are putting the pieces together themselves. With the help of a local conspiracy nut who has been ranting about the mall for years, they find the underground Stargate facility and start working out how to bring him home.

Containment

When the threshold woke up, OMEN was already waiting.

The facility under the Stargate Mall is not abandoned. It has been waiting. OMEN’s containment team rolls in within hours, hazmat-suited and equipped for whatever has started leaking through.

They are not there to rescue Simon. They are there to seal the door behind him.
